About Grimoire: Tools for the Modern Witch

Built by a practitioner, for the solitary witch.

Why Grimoire Exists

I have been practising as a solitary witch since the early 2000s: longer, by a fair margin, than most of the apps in this space have existed. For most of that time, my practice lived in paper journals, spiral-bound notebooks with herb notes tucked inside, and a natal chart I have been annotating in pencil for years.

When I eventually looked for a digital tool that could hold the same things, I found apps that pushed streaks, demanded daily check-ins, and treated a tarot draw as a productivity goal to be logged. Apps designed for social feeds rather than private practice. Apps that assumed the reader was new to all of this and needed to be gamified into showing up.

None of them were built for someone who has been doing this quietly and seriously for two decades. Grimoire is what I built instead: a digital grimoire that behaves like the paper kind. Private. Personal. Entirely yours. The tools are there when you need them. The app is silent when you don't.

About the Creator

Rowenna

Creator of Grimoire Β· Solitary Witch Β· Notting Hill, London

I studied English Literature and History at the University of Oxford, graduating in the mid-2000s. I have been practising as a solitary witch since the early 2000s; I came to the craft in my teens and have never set it aside.

My practice is chaos-based and matriarchal. I work primarily with the female divine, use astrology as a timing system for workings rather than as personality content, keep a working apothecary that has been accumulating herbs and resins for two decades, and maintain sustained relationships with specific deities (Hecate and Brigid in particular) across the wheel of the year. I have been doing shadow work since before it had a social media presence.

I write all of the pieces on the Grimoire blog: on herbs, sabbats, deities, the history of the craft, and the daily disciplines that hold a practice together. The writing and the app come from the same conviction: a serious practice deserves serious tools and honest writing. Grimoire is my attempt at both.
