SPELL BUILDER
Digital Spell Builder & Ritual Planner
From intention to rite to record.
The Spell Builder is where intention becomes a complete working. When selecting herbs and ingredients for your ritual, Grimoire cross-references your Apothecary stock in real time, so you always know what you have before you commit to a working. Candle colour selection is guided by the Candle Guide correspondence tables, and the full symbolic system draws from the Herbology compendium and The Vault. Every herb, crystal, and candle colour backed by its full magical context.
Every completed working is saved to your My Craft journal with date, moon phase, and all selected correspondences, building a searchable history of your practice. For timing your rituals, the Sacred Calendar shows moon phases, planetary hours, and auspicious dates so every working lands at the right moment.
What's Inside
Intention Setting
Name the working before you build it. The Spell Builder asks you to articulate your intention in a single sentence: a constraint that forces clarity, and clarity is the first magic.
Correspondence Selection
Choose your candle colour, herbs, crystals, day, moon phase, and planetary hour from the full Vault of correspondences. Each selection adds a note to the working record.
Rite Writing
A structured editor for writing your ritual: incantation, action sequence, opening and closing. Formatted for clarity. Readable by candlelight.
Saved Workings
Every completed working is saved to your Grimoire with date, moon phase, and all selected correspondences. Your ritual history, organised and searchable.
Outcome Recording
Return to a working after the fact and record what happened: what manifested, what shifted, what surprised you. The pattern of outcomes is its own kind of knowledge.
Definition
What is the Spell Builder?
Most workings fail at the first step, not the last. Not because the correspondences were wrong or the timing was off, but because the intention was never made precise. A working built on a vague intention is a prayer dressed up as a spell. I designed the Spell Builder around that conviction.
It is a structured composition tool for designing complete magical workings: naming an intention, choosing timing and correspondences, writing the rite itself, and recording what happens afterwards. It is a planner and a record, not a generator. The witch does the work; the tool gives the work somewhere to live and somewhere to be remembered.
The builder draws together every reference layer in Grimoire (the Herbology compendium, the Vault of correspondences, your Apothecary stock, the Sacred Calendar) so a working can be composed start to finish without leaving the page.
Anatomy of a Working
What does a complete working contain?
Every working composed in the Spell Builder follows the same five-stage structure. The structure is not a recipe but a framework: a way of making sure no part of the working is left to chance.
| Stage | Purpose | In practice |
|---|---|---|
| Intention | What the working is for | A single sentence naming the purpose. The constraint forces clarity, and clarity is the first magic. |
| Timing | When the working lands | Moon phase, day of the week, planetary hour. The Sacred Calendar feeds suggested windows. |
| Correspondences | What carries the work | Candle colour, herbs, crystals, scents. Chosen from the Vault and cross-referenced with your Apothecary. |
| Rite | How the work is enacted | Incantation, action sequence, opening and closing. The structured editor formats it for use by candlelight. |
| Outcome | What returned | Recorded after the working: what manifested, what shifted, what surprised you. Patterns emerge over time. |
Approach
How does Grimoire approach spellcraft?
Grimoire treats spellcraft as a discipline rather than a performance. The aim of the builder is not to make magic look elaborate. It is to make the working itself easier to do well. That means clarity of intention, considered timing, correspondences chosen for reason rather than aesthetic, and a record that lets you learn from your own practice.
What the app does not do is cast spells on your behalf. The structure, the references, and the timing are all in service of the witch's own work. The casting is always yours.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions.
What is the Spell Builder?
The Spell Builder is the ritual composition tool in Grimoire's Practice section. It moves through five stages (intention, timing, correspondences, the rite itself, and outcome recording) and saves every completed working to your private practice journal with the full context of how it was built. It is built around the premise that naming the intention clearly is the most important part of any working, not an afterthought.
Do I need experience to use it?
No. The Spell Builder is built to support practitioners at every stage: from someone composing their first working to a witch with twenty years of practice. The structure walks you through each decision, the correspondence libraries explain what each choice means, and you can save partial drafts to come back to. Beginners often find the structure itself teaches them how a working fits together.
Does the Spell Builder actually cast spells?
No, and that is deliberate. The Spell Builder helps you compose, time, and record a working, but the working itself is yours to perform. No app can do magic on your behalf; what an app can do is keep your tools, your timing, and your records close at hand so the practice itself stays focused. The casting is always done by the witch.
What correspondences does it support?
The builder draws on Grimoire's full correspondence system: candle colours, herbs and botanicals, crystals and stones, planetary rulerships, days of the week, moon phases, planetary hours, and elemental associations. Every selection links back to its full reference entry in The Vault or the Herbology compendium, so you can read the meaning behind each choice while you build.
How does ritual timing work in the app?
Timing is integrated through the Sacred Calendar. When composing a working, the builder shows the current moon phase, the planetary hour, and the day's astrological correspondences, and flags upcoming windows that suit your intention. A love working might suggest the next Friday at the hour of Venus during a waxing moon; a banishing might suggest Saturday at the hour of Saturn during the waning moon. Suggestions, not prescriptions.
Can I save and reuse spells?
Yes. Every completed working is saved to your private practice journal with date, moon phase, and the full set of correspondences you chose. You can return to it, duplicate it as a template for a future working, or browse your saved workings by intention, ingredient, or moon phase. The pattern of what you have done becomes its own kind of knowledge.
How does the Spell Builder connect to the rest of Grimoire?
It is the central composition tool of the Practice section. Ingredient selection cross-references your Apothecary in real time. Correspondences pull from The Vault and the Herbology compendium. Completed workings save to your My Craft journal. Timing pulls from the Sacred Calendar. Every part of the app feeds into the builder so a working can be composed without leaving its page.
