THE WITCH PATH
Ten Witch Archetypes. Which One Is Already Yours?
Find the tradition that calls to your spirit.
The Witch Path quiz is the first of four self-knowledge tools in Discovery. Your result is one of ten archetypes (Green, Hedge, Sea, Dream, Fire, Solar, Cosmic, Word, Ceremonial, or Devotional) saved to your Soul Portrait alongside your natal chart, patron deities, and numerology. Your archetype often points naturally toward certain deities, which is why Patron Deities is the natural next step in Discovery.
Your witch archetype frequently aligns with your numerology profile: certain life path numbers carry energies that match specific paths, and reading the two together sharpens both. Once you know your path, the Lessons section offers structured guides tailored to your archetype: herbalism and elemental work, ritual structure, sacred text, and more.

Definition
What is the Witch Path?
The question “what kind of witch are you?” used to annoy me. It felt like being asked to pick a lane when the whole point of a solitary practice is that no one else gets to make that call. But I have come to think the question is worth sitting with, not because the answer is fixed, but because naming what is already there helps you work with it deliberately.
The Witch Path quiz is a resonance check rather than a knowledge test. It does not ask what you know about witchcraft. It asks what calls to you: a place, a time of day, a kind of work. Seven questions. Your answers are weighted across ten archetypes, and your result is the path your instincts already point toward. The path you identify with is rarely a label to pin down. It is a starting point: a way of recognising the tradition your practice has already begun to take, before you have found words for it.
Methodology
How does the quiz work?
The quiz reads resonance rather than recall. Each of the seven questions is built around an image, a feeling, or an instinctive choice: a place, a time of day, a kind of work. There are no right answers. There is no scoring to track. Your responses are weighted across the ten archetypes, and your result is the path your answers align with most consistently.
Most people complete the quiz in two to three minutes. The instinct to overthink is the one to resist; the questions work better the less you deliberate. If you finish unsure of a particular answer, that uncertainty is itself information. You can retake the quiz at any time. Many witches find their archetype shifts as their practice deepens.
The Ten Paths
What are the ten witch archetypes?
The ten archetypes are not a closed canon. They are a working framework drawn from the broad lineage of modern witchcraft, chosen to map the most distinct traditions a solitary practitioner is likely to encounter. Some witches identify cleanly with one path. Many recognise themselves across two or three.
The result is a primary archetype, the one most resonant, but the descriptions of each are written so you can read across them and find your own blend. Each archetype connects to specific tools, ritual styles, and divine presences. The table below summarises each at a glance; the full descriptions are accessible inside the app once you complete the quiz, with deeper material in Lessons.
| Archetype | Domain | Practice |
|---|---|---|
| Green Witch | The growing world | Herbalism, plant lore, garden magic, earth-rooted ritual |
| Hedge Witch | The liminal threshold | Trance work, spirit travel, divination across worlds |
| Sea Witch | Tides and water | Salt magic, lunar cycles, weather work, water scrying |
| Dream Witch | Sleep and vision | Dreamwork, oneiromancy, sleep ritual, prophetic practice |
| Fire Witch | Transformation and will | Candle craft, fire scrying, banishing, focused intensity |
| Solar Witch | The sun and the day | Solar timing, manifestation, golden herbs and bright magic |
| Cosmic Witch | Stars and planets | Astrology, star magic, planetary timing, cosmic cycles |
| Word Witch | Language as magic | Sigils, chants, written spells, naming, incantation |
| Ceremonial Witch | Structured ritual | Hermetic tools, ceremonial magic, formal traditional practice |
| Devotional Witch | Sacred relationship | Altar work, offerings, prayer, deity-led service |
Connections
How is the Witch Path connected to the rest of Grimoire?
The Witch Path is the first of four self-knowledge tools in the Discovery suite. The others (your natal chart, numerology profile, and patron deities quiz ) each work with a different layer of who you are, and together they build your Soul Portrait inside the app.
Your archetype shapes what surfaces elsewhere in Grimoire. Patron Deities reads the divine presences already resonant with the work your path implies. The Lessons section curates its suggestions to your archetype. The natal chart adds elemental weight and timing; numerology adds the underlying pattern. Each tool adds a layer. None require the others, but they speak the same language when read together.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions.
What is the Witch Path?
The Witch Path is a seven-question quiz in Grimoire's Discovery section that identifies your witch archetype from ten paths: Green, Hedge, Sea, Dream, Fire, Solar, Cosmic, Word, Ceremonial, and Devotional. It reads resonance rather than knowledge; the questions ask what calls to you, not what you have studied. Your result is saved to your Soul Portrait alongside your natal chart, numerology, and patron deities.
How does the quiz work?
Seven questions, each built around instinct rather than knowledge: a place that draws you, a time of day that feels most alive, the kind of work that comes naturally. There are no right answers. Your responses are weighted across the ten archetypes and your result is the path your answers align with most consistently. Two to three minutes from start to result.
How long does the quiz take?
Two to three minutes. Seven questions, no time pressure, no preparation required. The instinct to overthink is the one to resist; the questions work better the less you deliberate.
Can I retake the Witch Path quiz?
Yes. Many witches find their archetype shifts as their practice deepens: the Sea Witch of your first year may not be the Cosmic Witch of your tenth. Your history is saved so you can track how your path has evolved over time.
How is the Witch Path different from the Patron Deities quiz?
The Witch Path identifies your tradition: the kind of witch you are. The Patron Deities quiz listens for the divine presences already drawn to that work. The two are designed to be taken in sequence, since your archetype often points naturally toward certain pantheons.
What if my result doesn't feel right?
Trust the disagreement. The result is a starting point, not a verdict. A quiz cannot read you more accurately than you read yourself. Take it again, or read the descriptions of the paths nearest to your result. The archetypes are not exclusive; many witches recognise themselves across two or three.
Where is my result stored?
Your result is saved to your Soul Portrait inside the Grimoire app, alongside your natal chart, numerology profile, and patron deities. Everything is stored locally on your device. No tracking, no third-party data sharing.
