A Fourteen-Piece Library

A Witch's Working Library: The Spells Cluster.

Fourteen pieces on the practice, theory and seasonal application of spell craft.

Spell work is one of the oldest documented practices in Western folk magic and one of the most poorly served by modern witchcraft content, which tends to skim materials lists without explaining why a working works, when it works, or how to know whether anything actually happened. This cluster is built differently. Each piece either teaches a technique end-to-end, applies that technique to a specific seasonal moment, or names the underlying framework that makes the rest of it coherent.

The pieces are designed to stand alone but reward sequential reading. The foundation pieces define what a spell is, how to time it, and the principles of sympathetic magic that underlie most folk-magical technique. The technique pieces cover specific working forms — candle, sigil, knot, jar. The application pieces cover the most-asked categories — banishing and protection. The sabbat-spells series applies those techniques to each cross-quarter and solstice in turn.

Specificity is the whole working.

How to use this library

Start with Spell Crafting for Beginners if you are new — it names the structure underneath every working in the rest of the library. From there, pick the technique that matches what you are trying to do (candle, sigil, knot, jar) or the application (banishing, protection). The seasonal pieces are best read in the week before the relevant sabbat; the workings in each are designed to be performed on or around the festival itself.

The pieces are added across the year. Two are live; the rest follow as their seasons or themes call for them. Bookmark this page or follow Grimoire on Pinterest to be notified as they go live.

Candle Magic: A Witch's Guide

The gateway technique — colour correspondences, dressing candles, timing, reading the burn. The most accessible entry point in the cluster, and the technique most witches underestimate how much there is to know.

Sigil Work for Solitary Witches

The most modern technique in the library — Austin Osman Spare's method, other construction approaches, charging, and the releasing/forgetting that most modern sigil content skips. With the honest note about its twentieth-century origins.

Knot Magic: A Witch's Guide

One of the oldest documented folk-magic practices in the Western tradition — the witch's ladder, the sailor's knot, the nine-knot cord spell. Underserved by modern witchcraft content and genuinely useful.

Jar Spells: A Working Guide

Sweetening jars, banishing jars, abundance jars — with proper Hoodoo attribution and three complete worked examples. One of the more culturally careful pieces in the library.
